History

The
Indiana Harbor Yacht Club(IHYC) was established in 1939 by a group of local boating enthusiasts. Their objective was to unite boat owners and all others interested in safe boating and the conservation of our waterways.

Members of the
Indiana Harbor Yacht Club enjoy the beautiful entertainment lounge and dining area on our second floor that overlooks Lake Michigan and the East Chicago Marina. Many social functions are held throughout the year. Our Christmas Party for our children and grand-children, Launch Party and Open House are the highlights of our social activities that focus on the members and their guests.
The first floor is equipped with modern kitchen facilities, and a large banquet room capable of accommodating up to 100 people.

The
Indiana Harbor Yacht Club is located on Lake Michigan approximately 20 miles from Chicago by water and within walking distance of the Ameristar East Chicago (Formally Harrah's) and Hotel and minutes away from the Majestic Star Casinos # 1 and #2. As well as being just 10 minutes from the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond. The club also has easy access to parking.

Today, as the
Indiana Harbor Yacht Club grows, it provides the facilities for use of training and the promotion of safe boating, such as the United States Power Squadron, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Salmon Unlimited and other conservation clubs that use the
Indiana Harbor Yacht Club facilities for their general meetings to continue to promote boating safety and conservation.

The
Indiana Harbor Yacht Club is a member of the Lake Michigan Yachting Association(LMYA), which allows for reciprocation privileges at many of the yacht clubs on Lake Michigan.
